UNIT 5 THE GROWING BRAIN – SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT- Part 1 & Part 2
This innovative training curriculum gives evidence-informed strategies to prepare early childhood providers for their vital role in building healthy brains. The curriculum fills a unique niche by providing a comprehensive understanding of how the brain develops, along with ways professionals can encourage healthy brain development in children from birth to 5 years old. The goal of unit 5 is to help participants understand that babies learn who they are by how they are treated and that the growing brain is affected by experiences and interactions. Learning objectives for this module include understanding how social-emotional development unfolds in the first 5 years and how to support it in young children; identify areas of the brain involved in social interactions and emotional reactions; understand the role of relationships and attachment in social-emotional development; understand the effect of stress on social-emotional development; and understand the development of empathy. Attendance to both Part 1 and Part 2 are required to receive full credit for this training.
